SEO Forums - URL Change for Website

Questions - 1
I am having a strange problem with a website i am working on, the company recently changed their domain name but the old domain maps to the new one.

They were www {dot} gtcsports {dot} com

Now they are www {dot} thorntonsports {dot} co {dot} uk

They dont want to be associated with the old name and when i put 'thornton sports' in google, GTC Sports appears top

Also i noticed that when i go to www {dot} thorntonsports {dot} co {dot} uk and check Cached Version in my google toolbar it says it is caching www {dot} gtcsports {dot} com
Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

The main problem I see is that the old domain doesn't "map" to the new one! At the moment the old home page/domain root url (301) redirects to the new domain but many of the inner pages don't!
Search Google for site:www.gtcsports.com and check the results (52), many of them are just returning a 404 page

You have this url on the new site: "/gtc-sports" (page title is GTC Sports Ltd) so "don't want to be associated" isn't quite accurate! I also see that url returned top of the "site" results for the new domain (hence the title)!

I think you'll find you're looking at the cache for "www.thorntonsports.co.uk/gtc-sports ", not the home page.

You need to (301) redirect the remaining urls to clear it up.

SEO Forums - Getting Closer To First Pages

After putting everything to use that I have be able to learn here ( thanks Guys ) its taken almost four months and we are at # 23 for our main keyword out of 7 million possible results. Since getting into the top 30 the movement up has been slow and in much smaller increments.

Would you just leave the onpage seo alone and continue with links etc because smaller movements is normal and good when your this close. Or would you make changes to your page also?

Don't get links, instead get linkable content.

Just increase your back links for google.com and you see slowly increase in your ranking every day - also use your main keywords - when you do offsite seo activities

I like to think that if you're putting everything to use that you've learned here, you'd still be working hard. Even if it's slowly increasing, you're making progress. SEO results don't come overnight but with constant refinement and persistent work. Keep in mind that the other 22 websites are probably doing the same thing, so to keep up and overthrow their position, you need to work harder and smarter.

Onpage SEO includes adding fresh relevant content. Continue to offer your viewers new valuable content. Start thinking less about your rank and more about what your customers are looking for. You'll find that this will boost you naturally, which is what Google is ultimately seeking from you.

This way of working sounds altruistic... and it is, but this is also what the web is moving towards. Let's get rid of the crap sites and push up the quality SERPS.

Great Advice... working on this site 10 hours a day.

It feels like I am stuck at 3rd page #23, I have a PR0 and everyone above is PR4,5,6 - Does that matter?

The four months includes putting the site together which went live mid February, I think we have PR0 because we were too new and missed the PR update?

My daily routine is:
3-4 Hours finding and requesting links with Anchor Text that are related, making and researching blog comments.
1 Hour doing Manual Directory Submissions
1 Hour writing an articles for submission, including for other sites that have content on what we sell, they in turn have links in the text to our products.
2-3 Hours on the site, updating product descriptions , adding products and general management and writing a blog. The rest of the time I am reading on Seochat and various forums.

Feel free to add to my list, I know I should be doing more.
